What is STS?
STS: A safe and reliable prepaid system standard.
STS, or Standard Transfer Specification, is an international standard protocol designed to safely and reliably transmit data information in prepaid systems. The origin of the STS standard can be traced back to the early 1990s, when it was initiated and promoted by Eskom, the South African national electricity company, and was initially applied to the electricity prepaid system. Over time, the STS standard has gradually expanded to other utility fields, such as water and gas. Today, the STS standard has been adopted by many countries and regions around the world and has become an important tool for smart utility management.
The working principle of STS is that users activate and use the corresponding services by purchasing prepaid vouchers (such as recharge codes or tokens) and entering them into the device. The STS protocol ensures the security of data transmission during the recharge process through data encryption, effectively preventing illegal operations and fraud.
What is an STS prepaid water meter?
STS prepaid water meter: a solution for smart water services.
The STS prepaid water meter is an intelligent water meter system based on a standard transmission protocol, which allows users to pay before using water resources. The system usually consists of a water meter, a user interface unit (such as a keyboard or display), and a backend management system. Users can activate the water meter’s water use function by purchasing prepaid water and entering the recharge code obtained into the water meter. The STS protocol ensures the security and reliability of data transmission, and the user’s water consumption is accurately measured and controlled within the recharge amount.
Such water meters are often used in public utilities to reduce water bill arrears and ensure the rational allocation and management of water resources.
STS prepaid water meters have been widely used in many countries and regions, especially in some areas with greater water resource management challenges. For example:
African countries: South Africa, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria and other countries face difficulties in water resource management and water fee collection, and STS prepaid water meters provide an effective solution for them.
Latin American countries: Brazil, Mexico and other countries face serious water resource management problems due to rapid urban expansion, and STS prepaid water meters help alleviate these problems.
Middle East and North Africa: Due to the scarcity of water resources and extremely high requirements for water resource management, STS prepaid water meters are also widely used in countries such as the UAE and Morocco.
As a manufacturer of STS prepaid water meters, Tengyue Metering is actively promoting MID certification applications and ultrasonic STS development plans.
